Human Arm Model
Materials:
1. 2 blocks of wood
2. Paper Hinge (Poster Paper)
3. Playground balls
4. Styrofoam
5. String
6. Cardboard
7. Universal Joint
8. Chopsticks
9. Wooden Dowel
10. Hot Glue gun
11. Super Glue
12. Duct Tape
Directions: Making the Ball and Socket Joint
1. Draw a circle on one playground ball
2. Cut out the circle leaving a cup
3. Cut slits from the circle down the side of the ball
4. Place tape over the slits to secure the balls together
5. Insert another ball into the original cut ball
6. Cut a hole in the second ball and insert the wooden dowel
7. Glue in place

Making the Paper Hinge
1. Measure the end of your block of wood and draw a rectangle that fits it on your poster board
2. Trace the rectangle again next to it
3. Cut out both rectangles leaving them connected
4. Fold the hinge on the line across the middle

Making the Wrist Joint (Universal Joint)
1. Cut the wooden dowel in about a 2 inch piece
2. Add super glue to the universal joint
3. Insert the dowel into one end the universal joint
4. Repeat process with a chopstick for the other end of the universal joint
5. Allow to rest and glue to dry

Making the Forearm
1. Cut chopsticks into 2 equal length pieces
2. Insert the chopsticks into the styrofoam cube
3. Hot glue the other end of the chopsticks to the small wooden block
4. Allow to rest and glue to dry

Putting it all together
1. Drill a hole into one end of the large wooden block
2. Insert the ball and socket joint into the large wooden block
3. Hot glue in place and allow to dry
4. Super glue the paper hinge to the other end of the large wooden block
5. Super glue the forearm to the paper hinge allowing it to bend
6. Add duck tape to secure chopsticks to the styrofoam
7. Insert the wrist joint into the styrofoam
8. Cut out a tracing of a a hand and hot glue to the end of the wrist joint
9. Attach a string from the large wooden block to the small wooden block
10.Make sure the string is not taped to the large wooden block but only attached so that pulling the sting will move the arm
